people are losing EVERYTHING they own.
i have a friend that is on a train right now passing through places that have been burnt to the ground and she says the smoke is so intense it’s getting inside the train and she can barely breathe.
and yet, even though several people (myself included) have been trying to bring awareness to what has been happening in southern europe… what we get from most of you, those not part of the countries suffering, is silence. we don’t ask for money, we don’t ask for shit other than a reblog to spread awareness… something you can delete in 24/48hrs if you wish.
i don’t know what to tell you. i’m angry. i’m frustrated. i’m disappointed. i feel like i’m screaming into the void. “a reblog does nothing” - you know that’s a damn lie, you know exposure always helps, you know people start paying attention when posts on social media become popular. my country in particular is a small one, we get ZERO exposure. y’all are only starting to figure out we even fucking exist bc of the shit we’ve been winning lately.

This is fucking important. I am glad someone fucking spoke about this and said what they had to say. The damage is terrible, and all the evergreen, stone, even the ground is black. I was fucking terrified when Croatia was burning. The fire was near a village where I like and I thought it will burn down. I thought the church will burn down. I thought the cemetery where my grandpa is buried will burn. I still remember the smell of smoke, and when I went to check how bad is fire, my clothes and hair and skin all stunk of smoke. It didn’t go away for weeks.

My expertise is in Australia media so you’ll have to excuse the focus on what I’m about to say.
BuzzFeed Australia was one of the first digital news organisations to become part of the Parliamentary press gallery. They were instrumental in shaking up the Australian Parliament, leading to dozens of by-elections and threatening to trigger a Federal election after they discovered a number of politicians were holding office whilst dual citizens - which is illegal in Australia. They have spent months pursuing Minister Michaelia Cash for her role in the death of an 18 year old boy in the controversial Work For The Dole scheme, and for her office tipping off the media ahead of police raids on a union office. Oh, and they were the first news organisation in the country to break the news that a major bank had lost the personal financial details of 12 million clients - every other news outlet lifted the coverage directly from BuzzFeed.
And that was in the last 12 months.
Oh and that Trump piss tape story that everyone here on Tumblr loves to crap on about? That was a BuzzFeed exclusive.
There’s a really stupid trend on tumblr to seem ‘edgy’ by mocking things that are popular or successful. Don’t shit on the hard work of dozens of journalists who report on incredibly important news and write it with our generation in mind, and then have nerve to turn around and complain that the mainstream media only focuses on older people.

You can go to a community college to get your lower division coursework done and then transfer to a four year to finish your degree. The best part is once you go to community college it wipes the slate clean, so if you had bad grades in highschool they wont matter, as long as you do well in community college.
And if college isn’t for you, that’s absolutely okay, too. Skilled trades pay super well and trade schools are very affordable.
I am in my mid-40s and I am Not Kidding: I did college and grad school for a career I am no longer in and am still $30K in debt after paying my loans down consistently for 20+ years.
I happen to be a chatty fucker and was talking to Lance, the dude who’s my electrician, a while back. Lance was telling me he was set to retire at 60 with a pension, making nearly 6 figures a year, and that there was no one to replace him because everyone’s going to some expensive undergraduate school to get a BA. He has no school debt and has in fact been supporting his out of work, BA-educated wife for the past five years because she can’t find a job in her field.
May I humbly suggest you check out the trades? Plumbing, electrical, carpentry, mechanics, handyman work - a lot of these are still good union jobs. These are obviously easier places to muscle your way into if you’re male, but - the more women who try will pave the way for the rest of us in the coming generations. Please do not be afraid to check this path out.
and if you want some intellectual challenge and upward mobility with your skilled trade, technical schools can get you into fields like machine design and scientific illustration. you can flex your brain muscles AND earn a living, you don’t have to pick one or the other.
